Here is a collection of commercials which ended up banned after only airing for short periods of time. Luckily they have been accidentally captured on VHS tape recordings and preserved for eternity!
(1) MOLSON CANADIAN - WILD LIFE (1991)
Banned after complaints that the "Fox" was a sexist caricature (she also appeared on billboards and bus shelter posters)
(2) DELSYM HACK ATTACK (1989)
Pulled from the airwaves after multiple complaints of this commercial scaring children.
(3) CHUM FM - ITS ALL YOU NEED TO PUT ON (1993)
Banned after multiple complaints (not sure why, its pretty tame)
(4) HEINZ - IT'S A LONG WAY TO TIPPERARY (1975)
Pulled after many complaints that this was insensitive by using a World War I marching song to sell Ketchup.
(5) THINK TWICE (1993)
Yanked by the PC's before it was pulled, this shameful election ad actually probably helped Jean Chretien win even more seats!
(6) CONSTRUCTION SAFETY ASSOCIATION - ASBESTOS (1986)
This horror show only ran one week before being banned for using graphic imagery and frightening children. Probably didn't help that it was shown during afterschool hours (for some odd reason, all of the CSA PSAs were).
What do you think? Did these spots deserve to be banned?
