Nick Walker, nicknamed “The Mutant”, is a Professional Open division bodybuilder from the United States. He is pretty famous for his physique and the well-developed muscles of his body. He won first place at the 2021 Arnold Classic, and placed 3rd at the 2022 Mr. Olympia, the most prestigious bodybuilding event in the world.
Nick was born on on 3rd August in the year 1994, in United States. His parents are Tracie Walker and Louis Walker. Nick is the younger of the two siblings. His elder brother's name is Louis Walker Jr. They both grew up in Pine Hill, New Jersey. Louis Walker Jr. is also a professional bodybuilder, just like his brother. He is presently employed as a nutritionist and personal trainer with the ISSA.
As a child Nick was molested and this resulted in him growing up as somewhat of a loner due to trust issues resulting from that experience. He went down a path of drugs and alcohol, but eventually realized things needed to change, and from there he picked up bodybuilding.
Walker’s first competition was right after graduating high school, and he did terribly. However, the crowd still cheered him on and he said it was the first time he felt proud of himself. From there, he fell in love with the sport and all that went into it, and it pushed him to want to be better and inspire others.
In 2020, Nick earned his IFBB Pro Card after winning the NPC North American Championships. In less than a year, he won the New York Pro which gave him a spot at the 2021 Olympia. On September 25, 2021, Walker made history by winning the Arnold Classic Ohio, Known as the second biggest bodybuilding and fitness competition in the world, behind the Olympia. He took home $130,000 in prize money and joined a list of iconic names to have won this prestigious show.
In 2021, Walker took 5th place at the Olympia. Then, in 2022 he stepped on stage with his best package yet, battling it out with some of the top pros in the world, and taking home a 3rd place trophy, beating out former champions Big Ramy and Brandon Curry. Not to mention, he came home with the title of People’s Champ.
Nick Walker stands 5 feet 7 inches tall, which is a good height for bodybuilding. He weighs 130kg or 287 lbs and has around 7% body fat which indicates that he has a huge amount of muscle mass.
The Mutant has some of the best arms in the Open division. Of course, most of his arm aesthetics are due to his top-tier genetics but he also works his butt off in the gym. But unlike his other body parts, there’s not as much focus placed on his arms because it’s such a dominant body part, and rather than having a structured arm routine, he chooses to do what feels good and just has fun with it. Nick likes to stick with the same exercises and progress as much as he can with them before changing up his movements.
The 2021 Arnold Classic champion trains under the watchful eye of Matt Jansen, a bodybuilder with a lot of coaching experience. Although Walker switched camps at the beginning of 2022, he returned to Jansen 12 weeks before the Olympia.
As with any bodybuilder, diet is huge for Nick. Diet can make or break a physique, so Nick pays close attention to what he eats. Eating 6-7 meals a day, and cutting carbs as he gets closer to a show he eats more in the offseason. The athlete also takes the “food is fuel” approach and does not eat for taste. Instead he fills himself with the foods that will help hit his goals.
Nick Walker’s insane, bulging calf veins got just as much attention as did he after his Arnold Classic win. Arnold Schwarzenegger pointed out the leg veins during Nick’s posing routine. “What’s the story with his veins on the calves in the front?", he asked, "I’ve never seen that before. There’s definitely something going on there, it’s a little bit too thick those veins. I would definitely have those checked out.”
Dave Palumbo of RX Muscle did a little education segment on the topic. But in a nutshell, Walker has varicose, also called spider veins. Oftentimes varicose veins are purely a cosmetic issue but in some cases can cause discomfort or lead to more serious problems. Nick’s calf veins don’t seem to be an issue at the moment but there are procedures to take care of them.
Walker was once asked if he could beat the legendary four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler in his prime. Nick did not hesitate to admit that he probably wouldn’t. He also thinks Jay is the greatest to have ever done it. As for any other bodybuilder Walker’s looked up to, it’s without a doubt six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates. If he could compete against any legend, it would be “The Shadow”.
Nick currently lives in Florida and is happy down in the Sunshine state. At 28 years old, Nick Walker has made waves in Open bodybuilding, climbing the ranks at an impressive rate and we wish him the absolute best in future competitions.
