A quick walkthrough of the basic operation of a followspot for live productions. Veteran Stagehand Tim Ramsay talks about and demonstrates the basic functions of a spotlight and discusses interfacing with bands, tour LDs (lighting directors), and house LDs. A discussion of basic lighting cues for the spotlights and various settings and options. It's not just a matter of turning the light on and pointing it. It can be an intricate part of a concert or theatrical production.
The follow spot being demonstrated is a Strong Intl ( Phoebus ) Ultra Arc II long throw spot. It has adjustable optics to allow it to work for shorter throws as well as longer throws in larger venues.
