Why is the college football media, as a group, so opposed to the idea of playing college football?
It’s because they hate Donald Trump. Pat Forde is entitled to his own opinion. He writes at SI. If college football isn’t played it’s going to be Donald Trump’s fault.
He actually said that. That’s his right. He has the right to his opinion.
I like Pat. He’s a good dude.
But I think he’s 100% wrong. If you want to blame someone, you should probably blame China.
And then if you want to blame American politicians, you should probably blame the governors of all the states with massive death rates. That’s who you should focus on.
The bigger issue here is, the Coronabros have lost their efforts in battling sports not to come back.
Here’s a pretty close to exhaustive list of sports which have returned or return very soon.
Major League Baseball, NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS, PGA, WNBA, UFC, NWSL, PBA, Boxing, NASCAR, Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, and the National Lacrosse League whatever that is called.
I’m going to keep making this argument because the Coronabros don’t have an answer to it.
There are three arguments they say college football shouldn’t be played.
1. They say it’s not safe. Explain to me why it isn’t safer for a player to be on a college campus than it is for them to be off a college campus.
If you don’t feel like it is safe, why is a college athlete who is being tested daily, who has access to the best doctors in the state not safer on a college campus than they would be if they were off the college campus.
Somebody tell me why that is not the case. College kids are clearly safer — athletes in particular on a campus than off a campus.
2. They aren’t professionals. The SEC just fired back at that idea by saying if they don’t want to play for health-related reasons, they don’t have to.
They should have the right to play if they want to and that’s what going on right now.
3. What about everybody else? It is not safer at home for everybody else because many of these kids live in multi-generational homes which means they are around elderly people more at home than they are at a college campus where they are surrounded by young kids who have almost zero risk.
The data reflects that the most likely place to have the virus spread is in a household as opposed to walking around on a college campus.
If you are concerned about older teachers or older coaches, they have the right to not work this fall.
The game itself if they don’t want to play, they can redshirt for the season.
This is a no-brainer and the Coronabros have no answer for it.
They look like idiots running around arguing that college football shouldn’t happen because it is the last sport they have a chance to stop.
It’s like these people in the college football media dont understand basic economics.
If college football doesn’t happen, they are all going to lose their jobs.
I want college football to happen because I’m a sports fan. But if college football doesn’t happen, I’ll be fine,
Outkick is going to continue to roll. We are dominating. Our business is killing it.
And it will continue to happen.
But, for a lot of these people out there who shares every positive test like it’s the worst day of their lives, a lot of them are going to lose their jobs.
Then they’ll get on Twitter and say they got laid off.
And people will say that you’ve spent the last six months arguing that the sport you cover shouldn’t exist.
This is just lunacy across the board.
There is no reason to argue that sports shouldn’t be back including college football.
