2017 Midwest Region Preview
The Midwest region should be all about the Kansas Jayhawks, as everything is set up for them to win.
They have an easy first round matchup against the 16 seed and then face the winner of Miami and Michigan State game.
It will be tougher in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight but Kansas gets to play those games in Kansas City, so they are going to have a huge edge in crowd support.
One word of caution if you like Kansas; they have been living on the edge all season and winning a lot of close games, and it takes just one game not to go their way and they are out.
If Kansas is going to lose, and it is definitely possible, as this is not the best Kansas team Bill Self has had, then Louisville, Oregon, Purdue and maybe even Iowa State have a chance
The Oregon Ducks would have been seeded higher but they lost Chris Boucher to injury.
The Louisville Cardinals would be an interesting pick to make the Final Four but they simply don’t score enough points.
Can a team make the Final Four simply by playing defense?
The Purdue Boilermakers have a front line to give Kansas trouble,
but Iowa State may be the team that has the best chance of upsetting the Jayhawks.
They have looked great since Solomon Young has been starting and it would not be a shock to see them make the Final Four.
If you are looking for a longshot then Vermont is at least worth a look. They are very well coached and they will not be in fear of anyone in this region.
The problem they have is a tough first round matchup against Caleb Swanigan and Purdue.
And you can’t forget about the 2 Michigan teams, as the Spartans have Tom Izzo as their head coach and the Wolverines have been red-hot of late.
