My name is Françoise and I work as a revitalization officer at the AGAP. The project is called the Projet de la Place Notre-Dame, and it’s a project to revamp a park that has gotten a bit damaged over time. The park is pretty empty, and there’s not much going on there, but it’s right in the middle of the neighbourhood. The market is right next to it, people love the market, they come often and that’s where all the activities are. So revamping the park will really help put it back at the heart of the neighbourhood, and it will help revitalize the neighbourhood.
I wanted to develop skills in the field communications, which I didn’t really get from my degree. That’s why I thought that, in a place like this, where Pauline is an excellent boss, she puts a lot of trust in us. And I felt comfortable saying that I didn’t know how to do something. That’s what I really liked about the Canada Summer Jobs program. We were in an environment where we’re trusted, and we could learn without any stress.
Leadership needs to a value for employers, but especially for us, because we work as a team. And for me, for a small organization, even though I’m the director, I tend to do teamwork in a roundabout way. So the more autonomy people are given and the more leadership qualities they demonstrate, the better the project and the team as a whole feels about it.
The Canada Summer Jobs program is a really good job. It’s only for the summer, you learn what you like and what you don’t like about a job. So for getting a permanent job, it’s practical, because you might look for a job that you know you like to do.
