It's Wednesday and here you have another jazz guitar lesson from me. This time I have a lick for you. This is in the style of Charlie Christian, for me one of the most important guitar players of all time. His influence was profound. Both Wes Montgomery and George Benson studied him very closely, and that's good enough for me!
Tab and notation is included of the lick. It works over a C7 or C9 chord. It's something I came up with, but it is very much using the approach that Charlie did on domains chords. Picking out the 9th for that sweet sound and bypassing some chord tones for interest.
C9 has the following tones:
*C Root
*E Major 3rd
*G 5TH
*Bb flat 7th
*D 9th
This lick uses all of those tones, but saves the root for when we come back on ourselves.
I mention in the video about my video on my 4 step method for learning licks. I think there's some really valuable practice tips in there to improve your practice of licks and vocabulary. It's certainly ideas which have helped me get more out of my practice. Here is a link to it: [ Ссылка ]
