Noran Amin successfully defended her dissertation on March 31, 2020. The title of her dissertation is "The Interrogative Mode: A Practical Theory for Comics Criticism". Her work presents an analytical reading strategy that links the works of different comics critics and scholars, as well as practitioners, and presents them to readers in a question form to lead them to conduct comprehensive analyses of comics that equally attends to the visual and verbal elements that create meaning and construct narratives.
The defense took place online (on Zoom) due to the international health situation: the spread of COVID-19/ the coronavirus, which led educators and students around the world to work from home. The Graduate School at Idaho State University (ISU) decided that all thesis/dissertation defenses for Spring 2020 should be held online, and Noran's was. Hers is the first virtual defense in the Department of English at ISU.
