I've seen those strobe-like devices mounted between traffic signals over intersections for a long time. I knew they were there to speed emergency vehicles through intersections by turning lights green as they approached, but until today I hadn't actually caught one working.

In this clip the strobe begins to blink white as a fire truck approaches. It's a bit difficult to see, particularly at first (look squarely between the traffic lights), but it becomes more evident as I drive through the intersection.
