Tuskegee University engineering student Nathon Tubbs spent the summer studying current sensors and Internet of Things devices as part of a National Science Foundation Future Manufacturing project in Purdue's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
Purdue is the lead on "Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing in Practice," working with a group of researchers at #Tuskegee, #Harvard University and Ivy Tech Community College.
The NSF project focuses on #IoT edge devices and artificial intelligence (#ai) for manufacturing applications. The IoT devices will be deployed at local manufacturing companies and their data will be used to improve operations.
Tubbs said he chose to spend his summer in West Lafayette largely because his father, David Landon Tubbs, is a Purdue alumnus (industrial engineering).
Tubbs worked with Ali Shakouri, professor in Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and graduate student mentors on the project.

The largest engineering college in the top 5, Purdue Engineering anchors Purdue University as the “Cradle of Astronauts,” from College alumni Neil Armstrong to the first female commercial astronaut. Other trailblazers include Amelia Earhart, seven National Medal of Technology and Innovation recipients, and nine National Academy of Inventors Fellows. Our agricultural and biological engineering programs ranked No. 1 for more than a decade, and the College houses the world’s largest academic propulsion lab and the nation’s first all-digital nuclear reactor.
