After the 2023 CFB season we will say goodbye to the PAC 12 as we know it! USC and UCLA will depart for the Big ten prior to the 2024 season.
So, in the final season of the established Pac 12 – will we see a team reach the college football playoff?
2014 Oregon and 2016 Washington are the only two to have made the playoff in the 9 year history of the playoff from the PAC 12!
Heading into 2023 - USC, Oregon, Washington, and Utah all will be ranked high in the preseason AP poll within striking distance of the top 10 early In the season.
I do believe in those top 3 ability to reach the playoff – all 3 have the QB play to be a playoff contender as USC returns Heisman winner Caleb Williams, Oregon returns Bo Nix, and Washington with Michael Penix JR who could win the Heisman himself.
The issue for these 3 teams is that they all play eachother – and the conference is very deep – potentially the deepest in the country. Utah, UCLA, Washington State, Oregon state, Arizona, Colorado, and Arizona State are all teams who could CERTAINLY beat USC Oregon and Washington. We saw it just last season as 3-9 Arizona state beat 10-2 Washington – keeping them from a pac 12 title berth and shot at the playoff.
