Placement of dental implants is a surgical procedure. It is done by a skilled dentist a skilled implantologist. Since implants are placed in the bone. Generally an incision is given on the gums. The gums are reflected, the bone is exposed and then the implants are placed in the bone and the gums are sutured back. It takes about 7 to 10 days for the gums to heal after which the sutures can be removed. The implant per se takes about 10 to 14 weeks for healing or for the osseointegration to take place after which only the implant can be loaded that means the crown can be placed on top of the implant. Skilled dentists may also do something which is called a keyhole implant system insertion. That is called a keyhole surgery where incisions and sutures are not required here the soft tissue healing occurs very fast and the patient is very comfortable. We generally prefer a keyhole implant surgery.
