Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has slammed an Australian journalist as “stupid” during a heated exchange in Canberra over accusations about his immigration views.
Carlson, speaking at the Australian Freedom Conference, was questioned by AAP reporter Kat Wong about his alleged support for the “Great Replacement Theory".
Wong claimed Carlson talked about "white Australians, Americans, and Europeans" being replaced by "non-white immigrants."
Carlson denied making such statements, asking Wong to provide specific citations.
“Well, it’s been mentioned on your show 4,000 times,” Wong replied.
Carlson clarified his position, stating he spoke about "native-born Americans," including African-Americans, not "whites" being replaced.
He then accused Wong of lying and criticised the media for insinuating racism without evidence.
“We just met, but when our relationship starts with a lie, it makes it tough to be friends,” he said.
The exchange intensified when Wong linked the “same theory” to a 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting, implying Carlson’s views might inspire violence.
"How do they get people this stupid in the media? I guess it doesn’t pay well," Carlson retorted.
"I’m totally against violence. I’m totally against the war in Ukraine, for example, which doubtless you support and, like all dutiful liberals, support more carnage. I don’t."
