The death of my brother Shannon Bennett was one of the most painful things I’ve had to endure in life thus far. While my family tried to grieve, Shannon’s death became a media magnet. One of the stories broadly covered among the many was the horrible words the city of Davie former Cheif police said about my brother. You can Google the story. I remember I was livid and wanted to avenge my brother. I remember plotting in my head and heart how I’d get that man back for dishonoring my family. Yet I felt it important to respond by not responding and giving more fuel to the media fire 🔥. I wanted to maintain the dignity of our family …..
2.5 years later this man walks up to me with brokenness on his face. Tears welling in his eyes. Apologizing for his actions etc etc …. In that moment my mind was racing 1,000,000,000 miles an hour. My anxiety peeked but then I felt a peace come over me. A peace that reminded me of all the pain I caused people in the past and yet IM FORGIVEN….So I forgave him. It was extremely hard yet freeing….
If you need forgiveness simply seek it from God and perhaps even the persons(s) you wronged. One thing is certain. God will always forgive a truly repentant sinner. That is called GRACE!
