IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley has claimed the credibility of David Weiss is now “non-existent” after the New York Times reported the US attorney was originally willing to “forgo any prosecution” in the “hamstrung” investigation into Hunter Biden.
The controversial investigation into whether the president’s son committed tax violations, money laundering and lying on a federal form resulted in a “sweetheart” plea deal being brokered with the Department of Justice.
However, according to The New York Times, the only reason Hunter Biden was set to plead guilty to two misdemeanour tax charges was because two IRS whistleblowers made bombshell accusations to Congress about the way the probe was conducted.
“Correspondence reveals that his position, relayed to staff, changed in the spring, around the time a pair of IRS officials on the case accused the Justice Department of hamstringing the investigation,” the article read.
“Mr Weiss suddenly demanded that Mr Biden plead guilty to committing tax offenses.”
