Tim Wu discusses the history of information monopolies in the US and the reality that there are many monopolies that currently exist like Google and Facebook. The paradox, he believes, is that Americans want freedom, choice, openness, and choice while at the same time Americans want consistency and convenience. Therefore, in the final analysis, it is the people who create information monopolies. Tim Wu is a professor at Columbia University who was recognized as one of the fifty leaders in science and technology by Scientific American Magazine.
