Just 90 minutes away from Amsterdam is the village of Giethoorn. Many people call Giethoorn the "Venice of The Netherlands" or "Venice of the north". The canals that wind through the village of homes with thatched roofs make for great photos and a really fun day trip from Amsterdam. Of course, we rented a boat and took a trip on the famous canals.
If you are traveling in The Netherlands and want to visit Giethoorn, please take our advice and go early to beat the crowds! We stop for a quick lunch, Dutch food of course, and also try a stroopwafel that we didn't really like.
