The East Coast of Greenland is one of the most remote inhabited areas of the world. Taking an Air Greenland flight from Reykjavik to Nuuk we had to make an unscheduled stop at Kulusuk as the Dash 7 did not have enough fuel to cross the ice cap and reach Nuuk.
Kulusuk Island is home to just over 200 people yet the US built airfield is an essential hub for all the tiny settlements of the isolated east coast. It has to qualify as one of the most remote airports with scheduled passenger flights anywhere in the world. The terminal is barely large enough to house one flight of incoming and outgoing passengers, and flights are regularly cancelled due to strong winds.
