US President Joe Biden says mandating the COVID-19 vaccine to all federal workers is “under consideration” before calling unvaccinated Americans “not nearly as smart” as he thought.
“If you’re not vaccinated you’re not nearly as smart as I thought you were,” he said.
The US president was speaking to reporters at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence where he urged the “other 100 million” Americans to get vaccinated.
“The more we learn about this virus in the Delta variation the more we have to be worried and concerned," he said.
“The only one thing we know for sure is if those other 100 million people got vaccinated we’d be in a very different world.
“So get vaccinated.”
The United States is close to reaching 50 per cent of people fully vaccinated but the country is seeing a surge in coronavirus cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued another mask regulation and have been recommending Americans who are living in communities of high transmission to wear a mask indoors..
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been heavily critical of mask mandates in the past, does not want to implement the regulation- especially in schools.
“Our view is that this should absolutely not be imposed,” he said.
“It should not be mandated."
