Following the Russian invasion in Ukraine, Evghenia, a young student from Odessa, sought a fresh start in the Republic of Moldova. While completing her university studies online, she actively engages in volunteer work, currently working as a project assistant. Her role involves aiding the successful integration of fellow refugees, offering valuable support and resources to those in need, fostering a more cohesive community.

This paid employment opportunity was provided by UN Women Moldova and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program, as part of a pilot project under the UN Volunteers Community Program. It aims to empower refugees by providing them with decent income and valuable work experience.

These paid volunteering missions are part of the "Promoting Gender-Sensitive Responses to the Refugee Crisis at the Regional and National Level" project, implemented by UN Women and funded by the U.S. Government.
