With rivals like the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf and Skoda Scala, it takes a lot to stand out in the family car class. But the Seat Leon succeeds, fantastically.

For starters, a large boot and even more rear passenger space than a Skoda Octavia makes the Leon totally practical, while a very reasonable price tag and an economical yet punchy 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine won’t see you stretched for cash.

Lively handling makes it fun to drive too, without compromising on ride quality. Finally, the interior is every bit as well built and tech-packed as the more expensive Volkswagen Golf. A fantastic all rounder, the Seat Leon is a very worthy winner.
