Shadow Early Childhood Education Minister Amanda Rishworth says she would like some of the principles which were important with JobKeeper to be reintroduced amid Sydney’s extended lockdown.
“One of them was the connection with the workplace,” she told Sky News Australia.
“We know that as this lockdown goes on longer people are going to lose that connection.
“They might be getting a payment from the government but when the city comes out of lockdown there might not be a job for them to go back to.
“I think importantly it needs to be more support.
“I think importantly it needs to be made available to people on social security payments.
“At the moment they’re excluded from this disaster relief payment. If you think about students, a lot rely also on a causal job. That causal job’s not available anymore. They need help as well.”
