This Tuesday evening series talk was delivered on February 14, 2017 at the Muslim Community Center - East Bay (MCC East Bay) in Pleasanton, California.
In this series, Islamic Sciences Researcher Dr. Ali Ataie, over eight weeks, delves into the sciences to interpret and understand Islam’s Holy Book. These comprehensive session is for any serious student of the Qur'an and it spans the contexts of revelation to correct recitation.
Dr. Ataie used "Ulum al Qur'an: An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'an (Koran)" by Ahmad Von Denffer.
This classic and popular introductory book to the sciences developed to interpret and understand Islam's Holy Book is ideal for all serious students of the Koran. Precise, yet comprehensive, it covers the traditional disciplines, including the meaning and contexts of revelation, the history and transmission of the text, and exegesis, as well as more contemporary topics like the recording of the Koran, the history of Orientalist approaches, and a survey of translations. It ends with a guide for the correct recitation of, and etiquette toward, the Koran.

About Ustadh Dr. Ali Ataie
Ali Ataie is a perennial student and researcher who has been involved in interfaith activities for over two decades. He holds a Masters in biblical studies with a focus on New Testament and biblical languages. He also holds a PhD in cultural and historical studies in religion from the Graduate Theological Union. His doctoral work focused on Muslim hermeneutics of Biblical texts, especially the Gospel of John. He lives in San Ramon, CA with his wife Roya and three daughters.
