Throwing arrows are highly popular among rural communities in Meghalaya state in India. Children and adults practice and compete shooting arrows at tiny cylindrical targets. It is also a social tradition which provides a joyful interaction. In Meghalaya, the state lottery system called "Teer" is based on Archery - "Siat Khnam". Everyday, men from Shillong's archery clubs gather for a shooting event. Hundreds of arrows are shot towards a large cylindrical target, while spectators and betting agents wait anxiously for the results. Numerous small betting booths are scattered all over the state where people place bets - a number between zero and 99. After the shooting is over, arrows that hit the target are counted, and the last two digits of the sum is the winning number...
