Ryan Garcia might be the one facing suspension and millions of dollars in penalties for positive doping tests. However, it seems like Devin Haney is suffering even more because of all the recent criticism. Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has now weighed in, giving 'The Dream' Haney a harsh reality check about the entire PED situation, which led to the April 20th fight between Garcia and Haney being declared a no contest. #ryangarcia #daznboxing #oscardelahoya
But De La Hoya's anger doesn't stop there. He also mentioned Canelo Alvarez and Shane Mosley, highlighting the inconsistencies in the penalties for positive PED tests. The former world champion and current head of Golden Boy Promotions took to Instagram recently to share his unfiltered thoughts on the Garcia-Haney matter.
Oscar De La Hoya asserts that nobody is forgetting the beating.
Speaking about Ryan Garcia, Oscar made his stance on PEDs clear, stating he doesn’t condone the use of such substances at all. However, he emphasized the inconsistencies in the severity of punishments in these cases. He said, “I do not understand it… Canelo Alvarez gets popped in a different state, gets six months; Shane Mosley gets popped and gets zero.”
It's worth noting that Canelo Alvarez, who had previously partnered with De La Hoya, tested positive for clenbuterol, a substance with steroid-like effects but not a steroid. The Mexican superstar was suspended for six months in 2018 just before his canceled rematch against Gennady Golovkin, but faced no further penalties. De La Hoya expressed his frustration on Instagram, criticizing Devin Haney for celebrating the reversed decision from the Garcia fight and complaining about payment issues. He implied that Haney’s marketability was the reason for his payment problems from the April 20th fight. De La Hoya assured Haney that he could audit his company to prove he pays his fighters.
Oscar was also upset about the inconsistencies in PED penalties handed out by different sanctioning bodies. He pointed out that Ryan Garcia received a harsher punishment than Canelo Alvarez and Shane Mosley. While Nevada dealt with Canelo and Mosley, the New York State Athletic Commission gave Garcia a one-year suspension. De La Hoya argued that a single commission should oversee all states to ensure uniform penalties. Interestingly, Ryan had initially wanted to fight Haney in Nevada for tax purposes, believing the fight would have been bigger in Las Vegas. If Ryan had gotten his way, he might be facing a shorter suspension from Nevada without losing all that money.
