Patient safety has been increasingly recognized as an issue of global importance and in 2002, WHO Member States agreed on a World Health Assembly resolution on patient safety. In May 2019, the Seventy-Second World Health Assembly also endorsed the establishment of World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually on 17 September, echoing that no one should be harmed in health care.
Reaffirming the principle of 'First do no harm', a need to promote and improve patient safety across health systems at all levels, sectors, and settings was identified. This requires a workforce that is sensitive, well trained, and competent in patient safety issues. To address this critical gap in capacity building of healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, non-medical hospital staff), the Public Health Foundation of India along with Lincoln American University, School of Medicine has designed a virtual training of 5 days on patient safety management.
