Dr. Joe DeMarco, chiropractor and owner of OcraMed Health, discusses tennis elbow and how to fix it.
In today's video, I focus on a muscle of the forearm that is often involved with tennis elbow. The muscle is called the extensor carpi radialis brevis. It's a small muscle that can cause big problems in regards to elbow pain.
The muscle originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humorous (the medical term for tennis elbow is lateral epicondylitis) and attaches at the posterior aspect of the third metacarpal. It's primary function is wrist extension (and wrist abduction).
This muscle can often experience a lot of "wear and tear" over time leading to the formation of fascial adhesions (AKA scar tissue). This results in a loss of elasticity to the muscle resulting in tugging on it's tendon attachment at the lateral epicondyle. The end result is inflammation of the tendon and pain at the lateral epicondyle.
In today's video, I demonstrate how to perform fascial release to this muscle to help restore elasticity. This is followed by an effective stretch for the muscle and an exercise to help strengthen it.
Perform these techniques every other day for the next 4-6 weeks. Leave me a comment in the comment section down below and let me know how these techniques work for you.
