Diagnosing a PGO-1-H Fault on an IMPULSE Series 5 Drive

Identify the Fault: A PGO-1-H fault indicates that the control board is not reading any encoder signal. This could be due to a bad PGX3 encoder interface card, disconnected power supply to the encoder, or a problem with the encoder’s electronics or wiring.
Check the Encoder power supply: Check the encoder power supply terminals IP and IG for proper voltage.

Check the Inputs: If any of the inputs to A+, A-, B+, or B- is missing, this will also generate a PGO-1-H fault.

Diagnose the Fault Code: Use the VG Plus Drive’s ability to sense a dangerous condition with respect to motor or load control as well as drive self-protection. If the control board in the drive has lost all encoder information, the drive will not accept run commands.

Attempt a Reset: Try to reset the fault using either the F1 identified by the term reset above it on the keypad or the reset key. If the drive does not accept a reset function, it is not seeing any encoder signal.

Check the Encoder Signal at Power Up: A PGO-1-H fault occurs when the drive is initially powered. If it does not see encoder signal, you will get a PGO-1-H fault.

Monitor the Motor Speed: Use the keypad to navigate to the operation status monitors and look at what’s identified as U01-05 motor speed. Rotate the motor shaft. If the encoder is intact, you should see feedback indicating direction and motor speed.

Perform Diagnostic Checks: If there is no encoder signal seen by the control board, the drive will trip out on a PGO-1-H fault. At this point, remove the cover on the drive and use a meter to make diagnostic checks. These checks will need to be made with power on to the drive. It is very important to follow your arc flash protocol when doing these checks.
