The sensational Semih Sayginer needs two points to win this crucial 50 point match at the 1998 $150,000 Carom Corner Tour stop in Chicago. He makes a nice 6-cushion shot for #49, and then misses the winning point by only a hair - leaving Sang Lee a very difficult position.
With three points remaining, Sang Lee keeps his usual cool under the immense pressure. He finds a solution and then pulls off this classic "Sang Lee shot" - a rail-red-rail-rail-ball pattern. He kicks at the cushion-first shot with total authority and proceeds to run three and out for the win! 50 to 49 in 25/24 innings. The Chicago 3-cushion fans go wild over the incredible performance by both players.
World Champion, Sang Lee goes on to defeat Raymond Ceulemans in his next critical match (with a breathtaking comeback). As a grand finale, with all of the momentum, he crushed Dick Jaspers in their Final playoff match - averaging over 2.0+ throughout all of his TV table matches.
*A fuming Semih Sayginer cracks himself HARD (4:57) in the jaw immediately after losing the match - the loudly audible self-inflicted punch becomes known in the US as the "shot heard around the world"!
This long-lost footage is part of a series of videos that CaromTV.com captured but never released due to technical problems that we had with some of its switching equipment. I am making these available for the die-hard enthusiasts.
