The object of this video is to evaluate the
Skywatcher Skymax 90. This is a Mak-type
scope with 90mm mirror and 1250 focal length.
It focuses with a small knob at the back by
moving the mirror back and forth. Easy to use.
Evaluation was by making photos using an
iphone with a Celestron XYZ holder and a
Sony Nex N5 whose adapter tube could be
fitted into the rear of the Mak. The smart
phone photos are shown first and then the
Sony camera photos. The photos were
processed a bit with Affinity Photo.
I consider this 90 Mak a perfect beginners scope.
It is solidly made, small and light and inexpensive.
With such imaging ability for about $250 for the
whole kit (erecting diagonal and 2 eyepieces) you
can absolutely not go wrong to start with this. All
you need then is a camera (Sony Nex 5N body used
$200. I do not like using a smart phone.),
a simple strong camera tripod about $35, a few odds
and ends like a Tring adapter for $11, maybe a better
eyepiece (Ploessl 32mm about $23 in China). Stellarium
app-free. Hope this advice helps to get you going with
a solid start for $500.
