¾ cup granulated sugar (150g)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup sour cream (120g)
3 large eggs, room temperature preferred
For Cake Layers
1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour (220g)
1 cup light brown sugar firmly packed (200g)
1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

¾ teaspoon table salt

⅔ cup vegetable oil (155ml)
2 large eggs, room temperature preferred

1 cup buttermilk (236ml)
½ cup very hot or boiling water or coffee (118ml) (see note)
Frosting
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened (170g)
12 oz cream cheese, softened (340g)
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon table salt
6 cups powdered sugar (750g)
¼ cup dark cocoa powder (25g)
