To make this simple and delicious Toor Dal and Bottle Gourd recipe, start by washing and soaking 1 cup of Toor Dal for 30 minutes. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked Toor Dal and 3 cups of water. Also, add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Peel and chop 1 medium-sized bottle gourd into medium cubes and add them to the pressure cooker as well.
Close the pressure cooker lid and cook the dal and bottle gourd mixture for 1 whistle.Turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and add 6 crushed green chillies and salt to taste. Mix well and cook the dal and bottle gourd mixture on medium heat for another 2-3 minutes.
For the tadka, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee or oil in a small pan. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds, and a pinch of hing (asafoetida). Once the seeds start to splutter, add some curry leaves, and fry for a few seconds until the spices turn aromatic.
