As the fighting for the eastern frontline city of Bakhmut became more brutal, the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior Affairs on Tuesday released a new video from the region, stating that the National Guard eliminated the Wagner mercenaries who tried to hide after the unsuccessful assault.
In cooperation with the aerial surveillance forces of the National Guard of Ukraine, the mortar units of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service have eliminated at least seven Wagner Group’s mercenaries in Bakhmut, said the ministry
“Having lost part of their forces, the Russian mercenaries began to retreat. The National Guardsmen tracked down the fugitives with the help of a drone, and the border guards-mortars destroyed at least seven invaders with effective fire,” said the ministry.
The dramatic aerial footage revealed buildings in ruins in Bakhmut once known for its sparkling wine production and salt mines.
"For the occupier, there was not and will not be a single quiet place on the Ukrainian land, and the only place of rest for them is the fertile soil of Bakhmut," the National Guard said.
Recently, a group of Russian mercenaries from the "Wagner" air defense system tried to attack one of the Ukrainian strongholds. But Ukrainian forces stopped the stormtroopers in close combat.
On March 3, Evgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner paramilitary group involved in Russia's "special military operation," claimed that his fighters have almost encircled Ukraine's city of Bakhmut.
In a video on Telegram, Prigozhin said only one road remained under the control of Ukrainian forces.
Bakhmut is a large transport hub through which the Ukrainian troops in the Donbas are supplied with weapons, military equipment, and ammunition.
