The Marquart Charger uses strips of 1/16" thick 4130 steel as its drag and anti-drag wires, which criss-cross inside the wing to provide strength and rigidity to the wing structure. This video shows the process of going from a flat strip of metal (as cut on a metal shear) to forming the loop on the end, and cutting the slot into which the wing bracket will fit.
