German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has visited Tel Aviv in a show of solidarity with Israel.
Standing alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said Germany has a duty to stand up for the existence and the security of the state of Israel.
The pair discussed how to get humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip, an issue Mr Scholz intends to raise with the Egyptian President.
Mr Scholz has warned Israel’s enemies not to enter the conflict, claiming it would be a “serious and unforgivable mistake”.
“In recent days, we have conveyed that message via various channels to all those concerned,” he said.
