Hi Friends, In this video I will show you the difference between a ceramic cookwares and terracotta cookware. Though both are made from clay, them main difference is in the heating process. Vessels on left side are made from ceramic and pots, glass in right are made of terracotta. I was not clear unless I put them in my hands, what is the difference. Terracotta is porous in nature, there are small small pores in terracotta from which water comes out and water in terracotta remains cool. Terracotta is ideal for storing water, because water inside terracotta remains cool and it taste fantastic. Ceramic is ideal for cooking, they are also call FLAMEWARES. Ceramic can tolerate high heat temperature and high heat variations because they are non-porous. You can see the texture of ceramic it is completely non-porous. Ceramic cookwares are ideal for cooking.
Ceramic is formed when you heat, when you fire clay at higher temperature than terracotta. Terracotta is form when you heat the clay around 100 degrees Celsius, but ceramic need much grater input around 1300 degrees Celsius. You need a temperature of more than 1300 degree. A grater energy input is need to give to from ceramic from clay than terracotta from clay.
This is a teapot made of ceramic. This is glass made of Terracotta. This is a pot for storing my water. I carry this pot with me. You can see the texture of terracotta.
Cookwares made of Terracotta are easily available in the market. If you go to pottery shop they will show you cookwares made of terracotta but cookware made of ceramic are not easily available in the market. If you try to cook in the vessels made of terracotta, They may not sustain heat so they can break easily when cooked at high flame. Also it is difficult to wash. Food enters into this porous material of terracotta and it is difficult to clean. The food remains in the pores and if you don't use for some days then fungus will from on this. They are not ideal for cooking for they are ideal for storing water, drinking water. I use them for storing my drinking water. Ceramic is ideal for cooking. Ceramic is completely non-porous and very easy to clean. I want to show you in the closeup. This is a chamcha, laden, made of ceramic. You can see its texture.
Before buying don't get confused between a ceramic vessel cookware and a terracotta cookware. Generally when it comes to cost terracotta can be available at lower cost than ceramic. Ceramic is little costly because energy input required to manufacture ceramic is higher that terracotta.
Coming to the strength, strength of ceramic is higher than the strength of terracotta. Terracotta can break easily. If fallen from a height even ceramic breaks, but the strength of ceramic is higher than strength of terracotta. Even sound of terracotta is different from sound of ceramic.
