Roger Federer says he feels lighter and relieved as he settles into what he calls a normal life away from tennis after retirement.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner was in Tokyo on Saturday for a promotional event where he spoke about life after tennis, how players can avoid burnout on the tour and his plans to stay in the game as a coach and mentor.
Federer said he feels lighter and relieved now that he no longer has to deal with the daily off-court chores of a professional tennis career.
He advised today's players that it is ok to take a short break from the game when they feel overwhelmed as way to extend their careers.
"Nobody is allowed to say I am tired today because it looks like you are weak. And that is why players end up having mental problems", Federer said, "But we are also not machines, we are also just human beings.
Federer doesn't have plans to open his own academy, saying he would rather work together with his sponsors and the Swiss federation mentoring young players.
But the former world no.1 left the door open for a possible move into coaching.
"Never say never", he said.
