Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr says he feels very honoured to be a guest of the Australian government.
Mr Marcos Jr addressed the Australian Parliament in Canberra as part of a two-day visit before attending the ASEAN Australia summit in Melbourne.
“Today, Prime Minister Albanese and I had a very engaging discussion on a wide range of opportunities and issues under the ambit of our strategic partnership,” Mr Marcos said in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
“I certainly (am) very honoured from a personal and an official level for the invitation as guest of the Australian government and, therefore, the opportunity to personally convey our commitment to this partnership and to reiterate Filipino friendship.
“Our conversation centred on ways to maximise the enhanced status of relations between our two countries, including on defence, maritime cooperation, nontraditional security concerns, trade and investment, development and cooperation, multilateral collaboration, and people-to-people linkages.”
