At the 1957 New York Auto Show, tail fins were in as the car companies turned out to show their new cars to a vibrant America that had a hankering for all things shiny, large and powerful including the innovative hard-topped convertible. Buicks, Cadillacs, Plymouths, Chrysler and the Ford Skyliner stole the show with no competition from the imports. A woman sits atop a Plymouth like a hood ornament, while another woman types in the back seat of an Eldorado, auto leaders line up (Henry Ford II). LC Colbert hails the future, saying "1957 will be a banner year for the economy and the auto industry in particular."
