A shocking new discovery suggests that Fungi might be "talking" to each other using a language of up to 50 words. Electrical impulses were recorded in the network of mycelia, the microscopic roots. These showed word lengths matching human language. "Split Gills", a type of fungus, growing on decaying wood, was found to communicate in the most complex sentences. Fungi can sense much more than humans, including chemicals released by other species. They could not only be communicating among themselves, but also reporting the well being of other plants in the vicinity.
