A real world comparison of the 4 wt 8' 6" versions of the Orvis Clearwater and Echo Carbon XL fly rods. In general, the Orvis is a stiffer rod with a much heavier swing weight and I'd say it feels like more than a 4 wt. You don't get a lot of feel and finesse with shorter range casts. The Echo has a softer feel and much lighter swing weight and it's easier to feel and load the line with shorter casts and light flies. If you're primarily fishing dry flies and small nymphs on medium to smaller streams, you'll probably like the feel of the Echo. If you want a stiffer rod that could fire longer casts and heavier flies, you may like the Orvis.
