I love how Faramir doesn't talk bad for the dead and he doesn't really consider him his enemy or evil. He knows that the Haradrim soldier was a man just like him, a man who might have been his friend under other circumstances. I think not many people know this but Tolkien fought in WW1, and lost many of his childhood friends in the battle of Somme. Their inability to prevent their deaths and the courage they were showing inspired him to write about the Hobbits who are small, weak creatures but they show unbelievable courage. His books are a strong anti-war statement.
