One of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes Mount Merapi has erupted, killing 11 climbers, and covering local villages in a cloud of ash and smoke.
Rescuers have found an additional 3 climbers but 12 more are still missing with rescue efforts ongoing.
75 climbers were reported to have been on the mountain at the time of the eruption, with 49 rescued.
Many of those rescued suffered from burns.
Personnel, including police and soldiers, worked throughout the night to help mountaineers down to safety but due to another, smaller eruption the search was called off on Monday.
Mount Merapi’s eruption sent ash over 3,000 metres in the air, covering several villages in ash and blocking out sunlight.
