This first video shows how I build a Roman style Scutum. It's made from two sheets of mahogany plywood glued together and curved to a depth of about 11in. It's faced with a layer of 100% linen fabric and is about 6-7mm thick 48in tall and 25in wide. Before curving, the sheets were 36in wide. A third sheet of the same plywood was cut into 1 1/2in wide strips for the framework on the back and also to thicken the handle. Rawhide dog treats were softened in water and stitched to the outer edge with kevlar cord and a 14g brass finished steel boss from amazon was screwed on to cover the handle.
