Jamal Thiaré may have scored the best goal of the Major League Soccer season … at the least the most creative.
In the final minutes of stoppage team in 1-1 tie, Toronto FC goalkeeper Luka Gavran thought he had stopped a scoring opportunity from Atlanta United.
Meanwhile, Thiaré playfully pretended to drink from Gavran’s water bottle.
But the goalie, nor any Toronto player, saw him, so he proceeded to sneak up behind Gavran as he rolled the ball forward to clear it for a goal kick.
That’s what Thiara snuck in, turned around and nailed an empty net goal to give Atlanta the win, much to the amazement of a packed Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The much needed win was the final game for star Thiago Almada, who is set to join Ligue 1 club Lyon after he plays for Argentina at the Olympics.
