We're obviously not high level athletes or super skilled practitioners, we just appreciate effective self defense training and getting a good workout at the same time.
James and I drill techniques from the Gracie Combatives curriculum: Punch block series, stage 1.5 triangle set up, and the hook sweep. It is important to note that the person being the "Bad guy" (w/ gloves) must feed the punches and indicators at a speed and intensity that the other person can comprehend. "Good guy" uses GJJ to defend and submit when/if opportunity arises (catch & release for any submissions to keep the drill going). You can't see it on the video, but I say "Nice!" near the end because James clocked me on the right side of my head with his left hand. Good reminder to always respect the punch! He is definitely a better bad guy than I am, and very few people can train w/ socks as well as he can :)
There are a few interesting things about James' jiu-jitsu journey. With no previous grappling or martial arts experience, he has also never had any formal training at any school. Considering those things, his ability is truly a testament to the quality of instruction that Ryron and Rener are providing on Gracie University. He is very tough to submit, and super fun to train with. Another person who I'm glad is on our side! :)
ps. Use mouth guards
