A simple yet very effective test for looking at hamstring function!
Steps are as follows:
1. Standing upright passively flex your knee as far as you can using your hand.
2. At the point of maximal knee flexion/bend, you must now try and hold your knee up and keep it bent greater than 90 degrees using only your hamstring muscles not your hand.
3. If you are able to keep your knee bent and above 90 degrees then congratulations your hamstrings are doing what they are meant to.
If however your lower leg falls to floor as in the final part of the video below. Then you have a poor functioning hamstring and need to see your Physio!!!
