Operation on Large Numbers
To represent the large amount of something large numbers are required. For eg -Population of a state or country, distance between the celestial objects, large amount of money, etc.Addition of Large NumbersThe additionof large numbers is similar to the addition of Other numbers. For e.g. Lets add 9,76,45,896 and 34,32,678.First, we have to write the numbers in the column form such that the digit at one place comes under the digits of one place and tens place digit comes under tens place and so on.Subtraction of Large NumbersWe can find the difference between the large numbers by subtraction. For subtracting the numbers we first right the numbers in column form and then startsubtracting from the units place. For eg -Subtract 74,82,628 from 8,76,35,874.
MultiplicationMeaning of Multiplication -Multiplication is the Repeated Addition. For eg -32 x 6 = 32 + 32 + 32 + 32 + 32 + 32Multiplication of Large NumbersWrite the numbers in the column form and then multiply the number with each digit starting from the one’s place digit. For eg -●Multiplying numbers ending with zeroesIf numbers end with zeroes, remove the zeros and multiply the numbers. Now add the number of zeros at the end of the result. For eg -1,20,000 x 3,000Multiply numbers removing zeros = 12 x 3 = 36Adding total zeros (4 +3) in the end = 36,00,00,000DivisionMeaning of Division-Division is the repeated subtractionDivide 32 by 6 32 -6 = 2826 -6 = 2020 -6 = 1414 -6 = 88 -6 = 2
Since 6 can be subtracted 5 times from 32, our answer will be 5 with remainder 2.Important RelationDividend = Divisor x Quotient + RemainderDivision of Large NumbersWe divide the large numbers just like we used to divide the small numbers. For eg -let's divide 5678 by 48. Write the dividend inside the lines like we have written 5768 and the divisor to the right side outside of the partition and quotient on the upper part of the partition.●We can verify the answer by using the relation. For eg, In the above example, we have dividends as 5678, divisor as 48, quotient as 118 and remainder as 14.Dividend = Divisor x Quotient + Remainder5678 = 48 x 118 + 145678 = 5664+ 145678 = 5768Hence our answer is correct.
Solving word Problems related to operations on Large Numbers●Before starting solving, read the complete question carefully.●Write the given information before starting the calculation.●First, identify the operation needs to be performed to get the required solution.●Carefully apply the required operation and write the complete steps involved.●Always check the answer in the end.
