Black Lives Matter protest organisers have lost their appeal to hold a rally in the centre of Sydney on Tuesday.
The NSW Court of Appeal today upheld the Supreme Court’s decision to block the protest, meaning those who attend could face fines and possible arrest.
Earlier this month, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told Sky News his officers would issue fines to protesters breaching health rules.
“We will take that matter to the Supreme Court and win, lose or draw we can still take action against people for breaching health orders and if a thousand people turn up maybe I can only write tickets for 500 people but do you want to be the first person to get the $1000 ticket, that’s the question,” he said.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said the decision is a “victory of common sense" considering the health risk posed by COVID-19.
