If your guinea pig is on antibiotics, PLEASE give them a probiotic 1-2 hours after each dose. Antibiotics kill the good and bad bacteria, causing intestinal upset. A guinea pig suffering from bloat can cause stasis, a piggy on antibiotic can go into stasis, a piggy recovering from a surgery can go into stasis and sometimes stasis happens for no apparent reason.
To be prepared for complications please request the following:
- Metacam for pain
- Motility drugs
- Critical care & large syringe
- Purchase Simethicone gas drops
Seek medical attention right away if your guinea pig is not eating, not drinking, not pooping or feels bloated.
